How You Can Help - Join ALT
Members keep the Aquidneck Land Trust working:
The Aquidneck Land Trust focuses its efforts every day to preserve our
Island's open spaces and natural character for the lasting benefit of our
community, embracing soils, waters, plants, animals and people. The Land
Trust's work today will outlast our lifetimes many times over. Your
membership provides vitally important income to complete acquisitions and
protect the ever-increasing number of acres in our care. Further, members
serve as ambassadors to convince others to join their support - in thought,
word, and deed - of our work.
Membership funds helped fund these recent successes:
- Increased its holdings to over 1983 acres and welcomed numerous new landowners.
- The Land Trust closed on the largest conservation easement in its
history, thereby preserving over 400 acres that include the Lawton Valley
Reservoir, Sisson Pond and St. Mary's Pond, and the associated buffer lands
a water resource area that residents from Newport, Middletown, and
Portsmouth depend upon.
- The Land Trust, Carolann Brown, and the
Town of Portsmouth successfully conserved over 28 acres on Sandy Pint Avenue
and Glen Farm Road in Portsmouth. The Town of Portsmouth became the
new landowner of this strategic parcel which abuts The Glen while the Land
Trust received a perpetual Conservation Easement on the land.
- The Land Trust hosted renowned preservationist James Howard Kunstler with his
presentation "The Long Emergency and Its Implications on Land Use"
