 Aquidneck Land Trust Saves Christmas!

Quick action by ALT thwarts threat to Santa's Village

Recent actions by the ALT have protected 5,000 acres of prime North Pole real estate from development.

The North Pole area serves as habitat to endangered species including the Polar Bear (Ursus maritimus), Arctic Wolf (Canis lupus arctos) and the Sasquatch (Hairybackus maximus).

Upon hearing of recent threats by the Grinch to turn Santa’s Village and surrounding area into strip malls, casinos and a Disney theme park, ALT sprang into action and negotiated to protect this valuable resource with a permanent Conservation Easement.

In return for protecting his beloved family homestead Santa agreed that all ALT volunteers, staff, members and supporters would forever be protected from being put on the “Naughty List.”

Santa’s village and workshop occupy only a small portion of the protected area. A large open area was included as this is required to graze Santa’s growing herd of flying reindeer.

                              Santa signing the Conservation Easement

Following the closing on the Conservation Easement, Santa was heard to say “Ho-Ho-Ho.”

Said Ted Clement, ALT’s Executive Director “Mr. Claus has done something that will benefit children for generations to come.  With this closing, ALT has now protected over 6,956 acres in total.

When asked about the Conservation Easement, the Grinch said, “How could it be so? It came without ribbons. It came without tags. It came without packages, boxes or bags.” And he puzzled and puzzled 'till his puzzler was sore. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before, “What if Christmas, he thought, doesn't come from a store. What if Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more.”

Happy Holidays from everyone at the Aquidneck Land Trust!!!
