Aquidneck Land Trust's May Events
The Aquidneck Land Trust has two wonderful events
planned for May that will be free to the public.
Conservation Speaker Series
On Saturday, May 24th from 4pm to 6pm
Native American Storyteller Tchin will perform at Miantonomi Memorial
Park. Tchin is a nationally known, multi-award winning, multitalented
Blackfoot/Narragansett artist. He was born in Norfolk, Virginia and
lived in rural Virginia and Rhode Island where he received his early
schooling. He attended the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa
Fe, New Mexico and graduated from Rhode Island School of Design with a
Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree. He is an accomplished metalsmith,
author, flutemaker, educator, lecturer, folklorist, musician,
entertainer and clothes maker, as well as a great father to his four
beautiful daughters. Tchin will do a traditional Native American
storytelling and flute playing presentation about the Earth.
Land Matters Walk & Talk
The following Saturday, May 31st there
will be a Walk & Talk Tour of Swan Farm in Portsmouth. The public is
invited to come see one of the largest remaining stands of forested
wetland on Aquidneck Island along with the property's lovely fields
and meadows. This 125 acre parcel was under direct threat of
development and is currently the focus of a major time sensitive
initiative by the Land Trust to raise $3,000,000.00 to permanently
protect this property through a permanent conservation restriction.
Participants will meet Saturday May 31st at 9:00 a.m. on
Wapping Road, where the old farm stand used to be. For those from out
of state, this means it is on the east side of the road across from
953 Wapping Road, a short distance north of where Old Mill Rd
intersects. Please dress appropriately for this walk.
Space is limited for both events. Please make
reservations with Jessica Pohl at
jpohl@ailt.org or by calling 401.849.2799 x 18.
