This Land Trust Walk & Talk will enable visitors to take a tour of a working dairy barn and learn about the modern techniques used to continue this age-old practice. Winding through the 8 acre corn maze, featuring approximately two miles of trails, is also a part of the program. This event is an educational opportunity for adults and children to experience the Escobar Highland Farm and its widely respected family business. This is a free program sponsored by the Aquidneck Land Trust; reservations are required by contacting Andy Arkway either via e-mail aarkway@ailt.org or by phone, (401) 849-2799 ext. 14 by September 8th, 2005.
Escobar Highland Farm is one of the very few remaining family farms still present on the Island and is noted for its state-of-the-art dairy operation. It is part of the dynamic Rhody Fresh dairy co-op, an organization working to promote the future of family dairy farms in the Ocean State. Escobar's Highland Farm is also renowned for its incredible corn maze and July 4th firework spectacle. This past June, the Aquidneck Land Trust raised the necessary $3 million to conserve 75 acres of this historic farm. The closing on this important conservation transaction is scheduled for later this month.
