Current Conservation Priorities
- Swan Farm -
Help the Land Trust conserve 125+/- acres of prime farmland, natural habitat, scenic views and
the largest remaining unprotected forest on Aquidneck Island. We have
until August 2008 to raise $3 million to permanently conserve this Portsmouth
property.
To date, ALT has raised over $2,500,000 in cash and pledges, from numerous
individuals, foundations, governmental partners and its own Land Preservation
Fund.
- Boulevard
Nurseries -
On June 13, 2008, the Land Trust, the Kempenaar family, and the Town of
Middletown successfully signed a Purchase and Sale Contract to conserve
approximately 31 acres of the Boulevard Nurseries property on East Main Road in
Middletown. The property is extremely important because of its strategic
location. It is one of the few remaining open space properties on East
Main Road, one of the two most heavily traveled roads on Aquidneck Island.
Under the terms of the agreement, the Land Trust will purchase a perpetual
Conservation Easement for $500,000 on about 31 acres of the 35.8-acre Boulevard
Nurseries property. The Trust has started a fundraising campaign to support
this effort.
